| 24 January 2008 - 5 Essex Court is awarded NPIA Approved Supplier status
The National Police Improvements Agency (NPIA) has awarded 5 Essex Court 'Approved Supplier' status in respect of training for supervisors and managers in the Police Performance and Conduct Regulations 2008. Fiona Barton, Head of the 5 Essex Court Police Team, commented: "We are delighted to secure the NPIA's 'approved supplier' status so that we can continue to provide training within an area of work for which we are already recognised as leading experts. The introduction and implementation of the new Performance and Conduct Regulations 2008 presents a significant challenge for the Police and we look forward to contributing to the succesful roll-out of training over the coming months." | 22 January 2008 - John Bassett instructed in the Shafilea Ahmed Inquest
John Bassett recently acted on behalf of the Cheshire and Cumbria Constabularies at the Inquest into the death of Shafilea Ahmed. The Inquest, which was extensively reported in the national and local news and press, arose from the disappearance of 17 year old Shafilea from her home in Warrington in September 2003 and the subsequent discovery of her body in the Lake District in February 2004. The Coroner returned a verdict of unlawful killing, saying she had been the victim of a "vile murder".
| 16 January 2008 - 5 Essex Court - Preferred Tenderer status with the West London Alliance
5 Essex Court has been appointed a Preferred Tenderer by the West London Alliance. The Alliance presently comprises the London Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow. Chambers applied successfully for inclusion on five framework panels: Administrative; Litigation (Civil); Employment; Licensing; and Education.

| 12 November 2007 - New Head of Chambers
Members of 5 Essex Court have elected Richard Perks as their new Head of Chambers with effect from 16 November 2007. He succeeds Simon Freeland QC who has lead Chambers so successfully for the past five and a half years and who is appointed a Circuit Judge with effect from 10 December 2007. Members congratulate both Mr Freeland and Mr Perks on their respective appointments.

| 26 October 2007 - Geoffrey Tattersall QC joins 5 Essex Court
Members of 5 Essex Court are delighted to announce that Mr Geoffrey Tattersall QC has accepted an offer of tenancy. He joins Chambers with effect from 26 October 2007 and will practise in his specialist areas of police law, personal injury law, professional negligence, disciplinary, Judicial Review and ecclesiastical law. Mr Tattersall will also continue to practise from his set at Byrom Street Chambers in Manchester.
