Cicely Hayward Accepts Tenancy
5 Essex Court is delighted to announce that Cicely Hayward has accepted tenancy. Cicely began pupillage in Chambers in October 2009 and has been supervised by Anne Studd and Richard Oulton. She will complete her pupillage with Samantha Leek and become a tenant from October.
Fiona Barton, Head of Chambers says, “I am very pleased that Cicely has accepted the offer of tenancy. She has already proved to be a real asset to Chambers and has attracted an enthusiastic following from Instructing Solicitors. I am sure that her practice will develop quickly.”
During her pupillage Cicely has worked on a range of cases from police law including civil actions, disciplinary proceedings, inquests and POCAs, to public law, employment law and personal injury. In her recent placement with Avon and Somerset Constabulary Cicely regularly represented the Chief Constable in the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court. She has, inter alia, experience in advising on Violent Offender Orders, Forced Marriage Orders, Drinking Banning Orders, Closure Orders, Risk of Sexual Harm Orders and Football Banning Orders.
Cicely commented: “I am delighted to accept tenancy at 5 Essex Court. It’s been a privilege to learn from and work with such exceptional barristers, all of whom have been unfailingly generous with their time and wisdom. From where I’m standing, the future looks very exciting”.
Before joining Chambers, Cicely had gained employment law experience as a Free Representation Unit representative and an intern at Dundas and Wilson LLP. Cicely researched the impact of the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 on the media industry during an internship with NABS and also undertook further internships with the legal department at Mizuho International Plc. During her legal studies, Cicely was awarded the Hardwicke and Hubert Greenland Scholarships by Lincoln’s Inn.
