New Head of Chambers

5 Essex Court is delighted to announce the appointment of Fiona Barton as our new Head of Chambers.  Fiona is a rated a Band 1 Junior in Police Law by Chambers and Partners 2010 and is described as being a ‘very well-respected advocate’ and having ‘great technical expertise’.  Her recent caseload has included appearing as lead Counsel in the Supreme Court case of R(L) v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis [2009] UKSC 3 and she is instructed to represent the City of London police in the 7/7 Inquests.

 “I am proud and delighted to be elected as Head of Chambers at a time when there is huge ability and enthusiasm within Chambers, demonstrated by our entries in the leading legal directories,” said Fiona on her appointment. “Chambers has achieved an exalted position at the top of the Police Law sets and has 5 of the 7 Leading Juniors in Band 1. Members of Chambers have also been recognised in Public Inquiries; Public Law; Professional Discipline; Immigration and Licensing. The quality and depth of expertise in Chambers is really beginning to shine through.

Fiona takes on the role previously held by Richard Perks.  We would like to thank Richard for his leadership and contribution to chambers during his time at 5 Essex Court and wish him all the best for his retirement.

Chambers is also pleased to welcome Sue Graham as our new Chambers’ Manager.
