Cicely studied English Literature at Pembroke College, Oxford. She converted to law and then completed the Bar Vocational Course at BPP. She was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in October 2009.

She accepts instructions in all of Chambers’ main practice areas.

Police Law

Cicely spent two months as a locum with Avon and Somerset Police Legal Services and in that time gained a broad familiarity with, and wide range of experience in, civil matters, including applications for Closure Orders, Sexual Offences Prevention Orders, Risk of Sexual Harm Orders, Football Banning Orders, Violent Offender Orders, Drinking Banning Orders, Anti-Social Behaviour Orders, Forced Marriage Orders and applications pursuant to the Proceeds of Crime Act.

She has represented the police in the Crown Court in Firearms Appeals, Closure Order appeals and appeals against cash forfeiture orders.

Cicely has also advised on assault, malicious prosecution, false imprisonment, retention of DNA and fingerprints, the Data Protection Act, the destruction of dangerous dogs, wasted costs in the Crown Court, the legality of drink promotions in bars and clubs, disclosure and rights of way on restricted byways.

During her supervision under Anne Studd, Cicely gained experience in all aspects of police law, including a police shooting inquest, disciplinary proceedings, and numerous civil actions against the police.

Public Law

During pupillage, under the supervision of Samantha Leek, Cicely gained a particular interest in public law work and has experience in prison law, immigration law, disclosure, ECRCs, judicial review, human rights and parole board hearings. Recently she has drafted Summary Grounds of Resistance for the Treasury Solicitor in immigration cases involving fresh claims and applications for registration as British Citizens.

Employment Law

During pupillage, under the supervision of Richard Oulton, Cicely gained experience in advising on disability discrimination, unfair dismissal, constructive unfair dismissal, sex discrimination, transfer of undertakings, equal pay, working time regulations.

Before coming to the Bar Cicely completed internships with the employment team at Dundas and Wilson where she worked on, in particular, flexible working patterns and the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006, and with a charity where she researched the impact of the Age Regulations in the media sector.

Cicely is an accredited FRU rep and has appeared in the Employment Tribunal in an Unfair Dismissal claim.

Personal Injury Law

Cicely has wide experience of advising and pleadings in a broad range of personal injury matters, including employers’ liability claims, slipping and tripping, RTAs, repetitive strain injury and PTSD.

Other

Cicely recently acted for the successful Defendant in Creation Consumer Finance Ltd v Robson (a case involving the operation of Consumer Credit Act 1974) and has appeared in the County Court in breach of contract claims.

Cicely has experience of advising on the Animals Act and related equine law.
