In July 2006 Georgina was called to the Bar by Middle Temple where she had been awarded the Queen Mother scholarship and a Blackstone Entrance Exhibition.

Before joining chambers, Georgina worked in Toronto in the litigation department of the law firm McCarthy Tétrault as part of the Middle Temple's Harold G. Fox scholarship. During this time she was part of the team to bring Canada's first price-fixing conspiracy class action (Axiom Plastics Inc v E.I. DuPont Canada Company). She also spent time as a law clerk at the Superior Court of Ontario and the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Georgina’s degree was in English Literature at Edinburgh University and Queen's University, Canada.

Police Law:

Georgina acts on behalf of a number of Constabularies throughout the country. She has represented the Police in the Magistrates’ Court, the Crown Court, the Youth Court, the Family Court, the Coroner's Court and the High Court.

Georgina has a particular interest in all aspects of stop and search having recently appeared as a junior for the Commissioner in R (Roberts) v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis. She has also advised four forces on stop and search and is currently instructed in another ongoing judicial review.

Georgina is also interested in inquest law having been involved in the Inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes as a pupil. She has since appeared in a number of high-profile inquests including the inquests into the death of David Askew, Charlotte Shaw, YM and Baby EG and appeared as Junior Counsel in the three month Inquest into the death of Colette Lynch.

Georgina has appeared at hearings and drafted pleadings, summary grounds, advices and other documents on a wide variety of issues relating to the police including false imprisonment, wrongful arrest (and in particular 'arrest by appointment'), retention of DNA and photographs, protesters, the exercise of police powers, human rights, personal injury and employment matters.

Georgina’s practice spans most areas of civil law and includes applications for forfeiture under the Proceeds of Crime Act, Anti-Social Behaviour Orders, Sexual Offences Prevention Orders, Football Banning Orders, ‘Crack House’ and Anti-Social Behaviour Closure Orders as well as civil actions and employment matters. She also undertakes applications for disclosure in family proceedings. Georgina has also successfully applied for Risk of Sexual Harm Orders.

Georgina has acted as an advisor to the Treasury Solicitor Home Office Prisons team in assault, false imprisonment, personal injury and property cases.

Between 2008-2010, Georgina was part of the NPIA training team which trained senior police officers in conducting misconduct hearings following the introduction of the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2008. She now represents police forces at police misconduct hearings and in the Police Appeals Tribunal.

Public/Administrative Law:

Georgina undertakes all areas of public law work, including prison law, judicial review, human rights, and inquests. She has drafted witness statements and successful Summary Grounds of Resistance in both judicial reviews and immigration cases; she has particular experience of stop and search having appeared as a junior in R (Roberts) v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis.

R (Alaa Elaydi) v SSHD and The Chief Constable of West Midlands Police: an ongoing challenge to the use of police stop and search powers.

R (Mongan) v Thames Magistrates’ Court and the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis: a challenge to the granting of an Anti-Social Behaviour closure order.

R (Konu) v Woolwich Crown Court: having successfully represented the police in an application for forfeiture and the ensuing appeal, Georgina drafted the Summary Grounds of Defence in the application for judicial review which was dismissed on the papers.

Employment Law:

Georgina has a broad experience of employment law and a particular interest in unfair dismissal. She has acted for both claimants and respondents in matters ranging from discrimination to wrongful dismissal and has advised on such issues as TUPE and education and training. Georgina regularly drafts tribunal documents and Advices and Opinions in employment matters.

Georgina has previously assisted at the Employment Lawyers Association Discrimination training event.

Davies v Anglian Home Improvements: successfully represented the respondent in this claim for a bonus payment following a resignation.

Licensing Law:

Georgina appears on behalf of police forces and licensing authorities in review hearing and appeals under the Licensing Act 2003.

She is also regularly instructed in Private Hire Vehicle Driver and Operator Licence appeals.

Georgina has also worked with Elliot Gold in delivering talks on licensing hearings in conjunction with the Institute of Licensing.

Chilli Masala v Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis: successfully represented the Respondent in this premises licensing appeal.

Personal Injury:

Georgina advises on a wide range of aspects of personal injury law including occupiers' liability, manual handling regulations, slipping and tripping, RTAs and quantum. She regularly appears in the County Court acting for both claimants and defendants.

Georgina has acted as an adviser to the Treasury Solicitor's Prisons Team on cases involving personal injury.

Commercial Law:

Georgina appears in the County Courts on behalf of both claimants and defendants in credit hire cases, debt recovery, breach of contract and misrepresentation claims.

Gibson v Mumford: a claim for damages of £30,308.67 for breach of contract in relation to the allegedly faulty installation of sash windows.

Black v Garner: a credit hire case following a road traffic accident.
