Robert Cohen

Background:

Robert began his pupillage in October having worked in the Legal Services Office of the House of Commons for the previous eighteen months. Whilst at Parliament Robert was exposed to questions of public, employment, personal injury, and freedom of information law. He appeared in the Employment Tribunal on a number of occasions, conducted contentious correspondence with the Information Commissioner’s Office, and was invited to speak at two conferences on Parliamentary Privilege (one of which was held in the Netherlands by the Montesquieu Institute of the University of Maastricht).

Before joining the House of Commons, Robert worked in Nepal. He was asked by Advocacy Forum (a local NGO) to produce a report on the Nepali Justice system for submission to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. The completed report is currently awaiting publication. Robert also assisted in drafting pleadings for a matter successfully argued before the Nepali Supreme Court.

Under his first Pupil Supervisor, Victoria von Wachter, Robert gained experience of employment litigation. He is now being supervised by Dijen Basu and focusing on Police Law.
