5 Essex Court regularly represents Government departments, local authorities, police forces and blue chip commercial organisations in contractual disputes and related litigation. A large number of members of Chambers have expertise in general commercial litigation; members who particularly specialise in this area are Richard Oulton, Melvyn Harris, and Alan Payne.

As specialists in advising police forces throughout the country, numerous members of Chambers are experienced in professional negligence and regulatory law, relating to a wide number of industries in addition to the police.

Chambers can offer both senior and junior counsel to provide legal advice in landlord and tenant disputes.

Geoffrey Tattersall QC is the Chancellor of the Dioceses of Carlisle and Manchester and sits as a Chairman of Clergy Disciplinary Tribunals. He can offer advice and representation before Consistory Courts, the Courts of Arches and various disciplinary tribunals.

Alastair Hodge and Mark Thomas are experienced practitioners in the field of education law. They both regularly advise Schools and Local Authorities on the duties of governing bodies, Safety and Supervision, Curriculum, Special Educational Needs, Admissions and Exclusions. Both regularly appear in SENDIST cases and at Admission and Exclusion appeals.

Victoria von Wachter has a wealth of experience in matters relating to equine law.
